The Time I Tried Making A Whipped Feta Dip

31st December 2023 - New Experience Number 48.

To go along with the menagerie of delights I was making for our new year’s eve soirée, I literally whipped up a dip; a whipped feta dip.

I’d seen lots of lovely pictures of recipes for it on Pinterest, and as I’d never tried making it before, I thought this might be a nice new thing to make for the special occasion.

Finding The Recipe For The Whipped Feta Dip

I’d been browsing Pinterest for ideas for things to make for a new years eve smorgasbord. It actually ended up being more like a beige buffet by the time I’d finished making the bread wreath, parmesan hearts and rosemary crackers. There was definitely a need for a dip.

I’d come across several recipes for a whipped feta dip which sounded a little different and a lot delicious. So I picked one from Cozy Cravings that was nice and easy to follow.

A jar of honey, a tub of Greek yogurt, Greek cheese, a lemon and a garlic clove all laid out. These are the ingredients used to make a delicious whipped feta dip
Not too many ingredients needed, and available at most supermarkets

Simple Ingredients, Simple Method

There were only a couple of ingredients I had to buy in specially for this make as I already had a few in the cupboard.

Of course it needed feta, along with greek yoghurt, lemon juice, garlic and honey to name some of the ingredients. They were available from any supermarket so there was no need to visit any more specialist shops.

To combine it all into a dip, was as simple as putting everything into a food processor and giving it a good blitz. That was it. Voila, a light and creamy blended dip.

Whipped Feta Dip - Top Marks For Flavour But Disappointing Presentation

The flavour packed a punch. Smooth feta with the tart infusion of lemon juice, and a perfectly balanced sweetener from the honey. It was an ideal accompaniment for dipping in many of the other new things I tried making for our new years eve spread.

I had bought more ‘basic’ versions of some of the ingredients, and it still tasted fantastic. Our guests were impressed with the deliciously sweet and salty combination. I can only imagine how incredible the flavours will be on my next attempt when I try it with higher quality ingredients.

Unfortunately I was running out of time, and what I really should have done was szhuzh it up a bit. It didn’t look as fancy as it could have. A drizzle of honey on the top would have looked good, as would the chopped pistachios which were actually mentioned in the recipe but I forgot to include.

The pictures on the website that went along with the recipe were a great guide to how nice it could look, yet I had to crack on as I still had a few new things left to do before the clock struck midnight.

It doesn't look the most impressive, I ran out of time to zhuzh it up! Tasted fantastic though!

  • To make this exact same dip, take a look at the Cozy Cravings recipe for honey whipped feta dip. There are lots of other great recipes to peruse on their site too.

Cost Of Experience

  • Buying all of the ingredients for this particular recipe from scratch will cost around £11 depending on where you shop.
  • If you do need to buy all of the ingredients from scratch, you’ll be left with a good surplus of some of the items which you can use in many other recipes.
  • This is one of those recipes where the quality of ingredients can really make a difference, so it may be worth spending a little more.

Recommendations

  • Add the garlic gradually. Of course it’s personal preference, but if you don’t want it to be too potent, I’d suggest not adding a full clove right straight away. Add a bit at a time and give it a test to see if you want to add any more.

  • Give it some finishing touches to make it look more appetising than mine did.

  • If you’re planning a get together, this is a great dip to make ahead of the occasion.

  • When you’ve made it once, you could get creative and consider adding some additional ingredients for different flavour experiences.

  • Take some pictures, I’d love to see how you get on if you give it a go, put my poorly displayed dip to shame!
