Made A Vase Of Flowers Out Of Paper
9th December 2023 - New Experience Number 34.
Making a vase of flowers out of paper was a fun little project. A bit like origami as there was a lot of paper folding involved, but more repetitive creases rather than individual bends and tucks.
I ordered two vase and flowers kits so that I could make it with the Other Half’s Mum as she enjoys doing crafty things. It was a lovely way to spend some time together whilst being creative.
By The Book - Made A Vase Of Flowers Out Of Paper
The instructions in the kit were really clear and easy to follow. We had an initial read through to make sure we knew what we’d be doing, and were soon stuck into the craft.
Literally A Brilliant Make
The vase was so simple to make, yet so effective. Sections of old book had been cut to size, and the designer had cleverly worked out that folding alternate pages in a particular way created a vase shape.
There were a lot of pages to fold, but once we got in the swing of the process, it was really relaxing and we had a good natter as we worked. Once the two sets of books were all folded, we stuck them together to make the complete vase.
Flower Power - Made A Vase Of Flowers Out Of Paper
To make the flowers we used the coloured paper in the kit. Each flower consisted of five individual petals. Each petal was folded and glued into a teardrop shape. They had a tendency to spring apart as they were drying, so, we gently wrapped an elastic band around each complete petal which held it together perfectly until it was set.
Sticking the five petals together to make one flower needed nimble fingers and a fair amount of patience. Once they were all complete, we arranged and stuck the finished flowers onto the top of the vase. This was another part of the process that needed a steady hand and perseverance.
Buttoning Up
Using regular PVA glue, we stuck the buttons from the kit into the centre of each flower. Tying the ribbon around the neck of the vase was a lovely finishing touch that brought it all together.
We hadn’t been able to tell exactly how the finished item would look whilst we had been making it. Seeing it all complete and assembled we could really appreciate how clever the design was. It was amazing to transform the pages of a book into something completely different.
'Fold' On, Why Don’t You Give It A Go?
This was a brilliant craft kit to complete with someone else because we didn’t need to give it our full attention throughout the make. Of course you can make it on your own too. Once we’d read the instructions for each section and got into the rhythm of the folding, we were able to have a good chat and put the world to rights over a few hours.
Want To Try It Yourself?
I ordered this exact kit from Etsy from the Alycraft shop.

Recommendations
Set aside time – this make may not require your full concentration, but it does take time to make all of the folds.
PVA glue works fine for sticking it all together. It’s not included in the kit so make sure you’ve got some before you start.
If you like to try different crafts there are plenty of kits that you can make from the comfort of your own home such as this one.
The kits come in a small package which easily fit through the letterbox so would make a great gift for anyone who enjoys getting crafty.
